BDO Solutions is a branch of BDO Canada, one of the leading accounting and advisory firms in Canada. BDO Solutions specializes in the selection, implementation and support of business software solutions for many industries across Canada.

The Challenge

BDO was seeking a partner to implement and support an integrated, turn-key hosted solution that includes a financial solution and human resources information system solution for a client who’s needs had expanded dramatically.

The client, a province-wide health care organization, required a system with the ability to maintain historical accounting and HR information, including 6 years of historical data conversion from SAP for 16 separate companies. All points of the organization required the ability to obtain remote electronic access to the Finance/HRIS solution 24 hours per day, 365 days per year

In addition to the expansive technical requirements faced by the client, the client’s contract with their previous system provider was to expire in 30 days, meaning that full system functionality was required within 30 days of the start of the project for 80 users and shortly thereafter, 800 HR portal users.

The Solution

Horn IT implemented a complete hosted Active Directory environment for BDO Solutions to base their hosted Dynamics GP solution on. This AD 2008 environment was built entirely in a clustered, virtualized environment utilizing Hyper V and Windows Server 2008 R2. Backup for this environment was provided utilizing Data Protection Manager.

BDO Solutions was then able to implement a Microsoft Dynamics GP solution for 80 concurrent finance and HR users including System Manager, General Ledger with Excel based Budgeting, Payables Management, Receivables Management, Human Resource Management, Bank Reconciliation and Purchase Order

Horn IT consistently configured processing modules across all databases along with other tools that were installed and configured included Management Reporter, Audit Trails, Mekorma (3rd party module) and Employee Self Service Portal for 800 employees.

The Results

Utilizing Horn IT and BDO’s rapid implementation methodology along with a unique method of training of all modules for all system users within a 2 day period the project team was able to take all 16 companies live within a 4 week time frame.
